Air con remote with temperature

Have you ever argued with your spouse or children about the temperature of your home? You might like to keep the home cool, but your spouse secretly turns up the temperature when you’re not looking.

With so many different preferences, it’s difficult to settle on a temperature that works for everyone in your family. The following guidelines will help you choose a temperature setting you can all live with.

The Ideal Temperature

You wish there was one perfect temperature setting for everyone in your family. Unfortunately, each person will have different temperature preferences. This depends on many different factors, including gender.

Typically, women feel colder than men. This could be because women preserve more heat around their organs. It could also be because of common health problems like a low-functioning thyroid.

To maintain comfortable temperatures for everyone in the family, keep temperatures between 20 degrees C and 22 degrees C during winter. In the summer, you may be able to keep your home as warm as 25 degrees C. These temperatures should keep your home comfortable, but you won’t lose money paying for heating and cooling you don’t need.

Special Considerations for the Elderly

It’s important to maintain warm home temperatures if you or any of your family members are elderly. That’s because older people are more susceptible to cold-related health problems such as circulatory disease and respiratory conditions.

Temperatures between 22 and 25 degrees C throughout the house should help elderly people avoid health problems. You should keep living rooms where they spend most of their time at a comfortable temperature of about 24 degrees C.

When You’re Away from Home

If you’re going to be away from home for four hours or more, you should turn your air conditioner off as it won’t take long to get to temperature when turned on again once you get back home.

While You’re Sleeping

During the night, you may be able to keep the temperature lower. After all, you don’t use as much energy while you’re asleep, and cool temperatures may help you get to sleep faster.

However, your body tries to stay at a certain temperature during sleep, so a home temperature that’s too cold or too warm can affect sleep patterns. It could cause certain people to have trouble sleeping or to wake up frequently.

The recommended night-time temperature for most people is about 18 to 22 degrees C, but this also depends on your needs. If you have trouble sleeping because it’s too hot or too cold, try adjusting the temperature a degree or two.

Still Can’t Agree?

If you and your family members still argue about the temperature, consider one of the following options:

  • MyAir fully integrated controller with added temperature sensors, this will allow individual temperature control to each zone.
  • Multi-split system. These systems come with up to nine separate units connected to one outdoor unit. This gives you the flexibility to choose a different temperature for each room.

With either of these options your daughter can choose a warmer temperature for her bedroom, and you could keep your kitchen cooler.

For living areas, choose a temperature that works for most people-between 22 and 25 degrees C. Family members who think this is too warm can wear light clothing and use personal fans. Family members who think this is too cold can wear more layers of clothing.

If your air conditioning or heating system is having trouble maintaining your ideal home temperature, call a heating and cooling specialist. Regular maintenance can ensure your system works effectively through every season.
